Ostrich Ferns form a large,
upright clump of big green fronds. Roots are
spreading, and plants can form quite a large patch
in time. Requires plenty of water through the
summer. If foliage becomes unsightly in late
summer simply trim down to roots, plants will
return following year. Yes these are the ones you
can eat in spring (Fiddle-heads) however your
plant may not re-grow those leaves the season you
cut them in. |
Pair with Brunnera for
spectacular spring show. Eventually you may need
to control the ferns by digging out some roots.
Chelone is another good companion. A good filler for the back of the border or in north building shade. |
